Visual Design Archives

Role: As a Flash designer, I embedded with Starbucks's in-house creative group. All concepts were designed and produced by me using  the assets and branding guidance provided by art directors.

Challenge: Showcase products and promotional themes that encompassed anniversaries, seasonal products, as well as Starbucks sponsored contests. The year-long campaign included the following 5 components:

  • 1 interactive microsite showcasing Starbucks 35-year history

  • 1 interactive promo for Coffee of the Week.

  • 1 interactive microsite to promote home brewing tools

  • 1 hero promo for brew sale, coffee roasts, and the featured seasonal coffee drink

  • 1 interactive microsite for Starbucks Earthwatch Expedition Contest.

Solution: Each project came with a new set of themed assets that I blended along with product and business requirements to create interactive microsites that were both fun and useful. Detailed storyboards were drafted and approved before creating any of the animations. I had to work quickly and accurately while incorporating feedback

Results: Products were well received internally with significant engagement and participation by customers. The Brew Sale promo was recognized as an Adobe Site of the Day – back, of course, when that was a thing.


35th Anniversary 

This promotion featured annivesary coffee blends, a portal for collecting coffee stories from customers, and a fun timeline that called out some milestones for both Starbucks and the world in general.

 
 
 

Coffee of the Week

Fall is a significant season for coffees with the yearly introduction of cool-weather drinks and flavors in addition to the ubiquitous Pumpkin Spice. This promo paired up coffee blends with some typical autumn activities and foods.

Spring Brew Sale

This site connected viewers with information on products and links to purchase online as well as helpful tips on achieving the best cup of coffee. There was also an interactive learning tool developed by Smashing Ideas to teach customers how to make the perfect cup of coffee.

Homepage Promo

Earthwatch Expedition Contest

The Starbucks Earthwatch Expedition contest winners were invited to visit a coffee cooperative in Costa Rica. This promo featured winner testimonials from the previous year.
